How we work

AJK offers a hassle-free, personal service that is flexible around the individual needs of our contractors.

You can register with AJK either through your agency or individually by filling in our registration form online. Unlike other payroll companies, there is no joining fee and you will only be charged for the weeks that you work for us.

Our experienced team are on hand to help you complete any forms or listen to any queries you may have.  As we offer a range of payroll and contracting services, we will provide you with comparable pay illustrations for different payment schemes and advise you which service suits you the best.

Every contractor will be assigned to a dedicated Account Manager who will assist if you have any queries throughout your time with us.

Benefits

The AJK team works hard to ensure that our contractors get the best service from us so we have a number of benefits for them.

We fully understand that you work hard for your earnings so we go the extra mile to make sure you receive the money you are entitled to. We achieve this by doing things like constantly checking expense forms have been completed correctly and we don’t have any joining or administration fees, therefore you only pay for the weeks you work.

As an umbrella employee of AJK, you can claim business expenses back through our hassle-free system.

You can only claim your expenses if they are incurred wholly, exclusively and necessarily in the performance of your employment.

Claiming expenses is straightforward – you just fill out one of our expense claim forms and provide the relevant receipts. You can either post them to us or send us a clear photograph from your mobile phone. You can only claim expenses that are wholly and exclusively for the purpose of the business. We have tried to make this list exhaustive, however, if you do have any questions please do not hesitate to contact a member of our team.

Expenses are not paid back to you pound for pound they are used as tax relief within your wages – they are offset against the amount of tax you pay. Expenses allow you to have a reduced taxable income enabling you to take home more of your wages. You can only submit and claim your expenses if you are due to be paid wages from your agency. Expenses can’t be submitted on their own.

We understand that it is essential for you to be fully compliant with all of the latest working regulations and legislation. Due to the frequent amendments and the introduction of new legislation, it can be a minefield to keep up-to-date with all of the changes, so we are on hand to do it for you.

We work with tax specialists, to ensure all our experienced team are fully up-to-date and trained on all new and existing regulations and legislation. We will make you aware of any changes that affect the way you work or your pay, plus we will also ensure that you will be 100% compliant with HMRC.

We can provide self-employed workers with a free year-end self-assessment tax return if you stay with AJK Consult for 12 months or longer. This will take a weight off your mind, giving you more time to focus on your business.

As people in the UK are living longer, but not saving properly for retirement, the Government has introduced the new pension auto-enrolment regulations which will be phased in for August 2014.

The legislation means that employers must automatically enrol workers into a workplace pension based on certain factors including their age and earnings. It will start with large employers and will then be rolled out to all employers.

The added benefit for contractors is that when you pay in your employer does too. Employers are required to contribute a minimum of 1% of their employees’ qualifying earnings into the pension, which will rise to 3% by 2018. Contractors will contribute a minimum of 1%, rising to 5% by 2018.

Contractors do have the chance to opt-out if they wish within a set time period or leave the scheme at a later date.
